The Consequences of Students' Behavior

Overview

Grijalva Elementary School uses PBS (Positive Behavior Systems) throughout the school. For disruptions in the class the school uses a system called Think Time. I have found it to be very effective in most cases. I keep a personal record of student disruptions in my record book. Students will never have their names placed publicly on the board.

Think Time
  • First: Students receive a warning.
  • Second: If the student continues to misbehave a paper with the name of a cooperating teacher is placed on the student's desk, there is not a discussion about it, the students are aware of the procedure for Think Time.
  • Third: The student goes to the cooperating teacher and fills out a reflection form.
  • Fourth: The student comes back to class, hands me the form, is welcomed back to the class, and resumes their work.
  • Fifth: I keep the forms with my files for each student.
